Bernice was guest author at the very first "Lake Of Shining Waters Book Festival" in 1988 held in P.E.I. Bernice read the first two chapters of her book, "As Ever Booky", which told of her memorable meeting with L.M. Montgomery. She also shared a letter, written to her by L.M. Montgomery in 1937, still in its original envelope with a two cent stamp in the corner. She has attended many conferences and workshops for young writers.


Stage, Television and Film Productions


     The Young People's Theatre, in Toronto, produced a musical based on "That Scatterbrain Booky" in April, 1990. It was the winner of three "Dora Mavor Moore" awards.


     On August 22, 1992, Global T.V. aired a half-hour production of "That Scatterbrain Booky," by Atlantis Films. It was a finalist in the New York Film Festival, 1992, and it won honourable mention at the World Huston International Film Festival and the Columbus, Ohio Film Festival.


     In April 2006 Booky Makes Her Mark, a movie based on the Booky Trilogy, closed the Sprockets Film Festival and aired on CBC in the fall. Two sequels, Booky's Crush and Booky's Secret Santa         aired in 2007 and 2009 on CBC.



     Bernice's books have been translated into French, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. They are also popular in Australia and Bernice has received many fan letters from outside of Canada.

     Bernice has talked to thousands of schoolchildren in every major city in Canada, and in many small cities and rural schools and libraries. She received hundreds of fan letters each year and answered them all personally, in longhand.
